Shiva Rea: Surf Yoga Soul is the latest release from Acacia Fitness. Katie from Acacia was kind enough to send me a copy of this wonderful workout before it hits stores.
Surf Yoga Soul is a creative practice and I like the different moves that Shiva does on this DVD. I have been practicing for quite a long time now and a few of the moves were new to me. I have two other yoga DVD's that are meant for surfers and they have big segments for hip flexibility. This DVD not only focuses on hip flexibility but also has an emphasis on core and total body strength.
One of the big reasons I liked this DVD is because I am able to adjust it to my needs. You don't just push play, you create your own practice. This creation is called the Yoga Matrix.
The Yoga Matrix consists of 7 segments:
Agni Namaskar(17 min.)
Balance Flow (20 min)
Mandala Namaskar (12 min.)
Breath Wave(5 min.)
Flexibility Flow (11 min.)
Shavasana (2 min.)
The Yoga Matrix enables you to pick and choose as many segments as you would like for a wonderful practice. You pick and choose your segments then "Ride the Wave".
I did five of the sections yesterday and OH MY GOODNESS, what a workout! Be ready to work! In Agni Namaskar alone, Shiva has you do 144 push ups. That's right, 144! She breaks it up so don't worry that you have to do them all at the same time:) I loved the hip stretches as well as the balance section. Shiva is a great instructor and has a calm demeanor. The only criticism was that the cueing was a bit behind sometimes but after a few rounds I know it won't be an issue.
I know this DVD will be great for building strength and flexibility, two things that everyone loves!
A little side note for all of you Survivor fans out there, Matty from last season was one of the cast in this DVD. I kept staring at him and thought, "Is that Matty?" Sure enough, it was:)
