Insanity Recovery Week: Core Cardio & Balance
Last Saturday I finished Month 1 of Insanity. I was excited to be done because I was just starting to get burnt out on a workout or two. I previewed Core Cardio & Balance and wondered what kind of a recovery I would get doing the DVD. It has quite a few of the exercises I had been doing up until that point so I was a bit leery. Good news, although a lot of the moves are the same as in the Month 1 workouts, they are far less intense and most have a little twist from the original. It is nice to do the moves and focus more on form and the core area. I have been pleasantly surprised by the results I've seen just in this week.
I think I will have this same recovery week when I am done with the program even though it is not suggested. It is really tightening up my core area and I am loving how my arms look. I am so happy with this program and I am saying that now because I know Month 2 is coming and I may pass out and die before I return to the computer for an update ;D
Here is how the workout breaks down: (all moves are 1 minute)
Switch Heel Kicks
Mummy Kicks
Football Shuffles
Over the Log
8 High Knees/ 8 Power Jacks
8 Fast Feet/ 8 Alternating Hooks
Stretch (4 min)
Moving Ski Hops
Hit the Floor
Level 1 Drills
Heisman
8 Switch Kicks/ 8 Hop Squats
High Jumps
Moving Plank Walk
8 Elbows/ 4 Suicides
4 & 4 Hops
Jab Switch/ Jump Squats
Hip Flexor Burners (3 min)
Water Break (30 sec)
Oblique Knee Lift
Shoulder Burners in Plie (3 min)
Cool Down Stretch (3 min)
The workout runs 37 minutes long and it goes by quickly. I thought I would be annoyed doing the same workout 6 days straight but I've really been trying to focus on my form each day. I still am not able to finish the shoulder series without taking a break but that is my goal for this week. Hopefully by Saturday I will meet that goal and be nice and recovered for the daunting Month 2.
I will be reviewing each workout for Month 2 just as I did in Month 1. I hope you are all enjoying these reviews! If you have any questions about this program or any other fitness questions, don't hesitate to ask me!
It's almost Friday! Any exciting plans this weekend? Are you enjoying beautiful weather where you are? Talk to you soon!

I felt the same way about the recovery week - worried I'd get bored. I actually planned on skipping it a few days, but found myself really looking forward to it. I wasn't able to the complete the shoulder circuit without standing up until Friday.
ReplyDeleteI just did it again this morning too. It's still a killer and maybe one of my favorites.
Thanks for the review I am just finishing up week one. Not so much on the beautiful weather here in Phoenix.
ReplyDeleteKatie: Yep, I think it will be one of my faves too! Glad to know tomorrow may be the day I last through the shoulder work : )
ReplyDeleteJeremy: My extended family lives in Phoenix too so I know it's a bit toasty out your way. Stay cool! Thanks for reading : )

Glad you are still enjoying the insanity program. We are finally done with ours. We saw improvements with the program :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteKeep enjoying your recovery week! I'm thinking about starting up an Insanity/P90X hybrid again . I did Max Interval Circuit yesterday and remembered what a butt-kicker it is. It had been a while, so thinking I need to put the hybrid on the calendar so I can stay committed!
ReplyDeleteB-day weekend for my 3 year old! Lots of fun planned with fam and friends!
You are really making me want to get the Insanity program now. By the way, I'm going to try your healthy protein pancakes this weekend. The are drool worthy!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your 3-year old Kelly!! What a nice mommy you are : )
ReplyDeleteYep, a P90X/ Insanity hybrid is on my calendar after Turbo Fire and a possible Chalean Extreme hybrid workout, yea!!
Mo, It's a great program especially if you're a cardio junkie. It's really versatile too because you can mix the cardio with any weight program you're doing. It's a good investment for sure : ) Enjoy the pancakes!!
